The WW-5100C – The Forgotten Pioneer

When people talk about the earliest G-Shock models, the conversation usually begins with the DW-5000C and quickly moves on to the legendary DW-5200C "Hero."

Often overlooked is the WW-5100C-1—one of the very first G-Shocks and the second model released in the series.

Introduced in 1983, the WW-5100C-1 arrived at a time when the G-Shock concept was still unproven. Casio had created a watch unlike anything the market had seen before, but convincing customers that a digital watch could survive serious abuse was no easy task.

The WW-5100C-1 shares its rugged foundation with the original DW-5000C, including the first-generation stainless steel screw-back case. However, it stands apart with its own distinctive bezel design and bold front graphics, giving it a unique identity among the earliest G-Shocks.

Like the original DW-5000C, the WW-5100C-1 was produced in relatively small numbers during G-Shock's infancy. As a result, surviving examples—especially those retaining their original bezel and band—are now highly sought after by collectors.

Although the WW-5100C-1 is by far the best-known version, Casio also produced a much rarer yellow-accented variant, the WW-5100C-9, making the WW-5100C family even more interesting for collectors.

Today, the WW-5100C-1 represents an important chapter in G-Shock history. It bridges the gap between the pioneering DW-5000C and the iconic DW-5200C, helping to tell the story of the brand's earliest years.

It may not carry a famous nickname.

But the WW-5100C-1 remains one of the true pioneers of the G-Shock legacy.
